RESUME

François Rycx is Professor of Economics at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He is affiliated to the Centre Emile Bernheim (CEBRIG), the Department of Applied Economics of ULB (DULBEA), the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) in Bonn (Germany), the Global Labor Organisation (GLO) in Essen (Germany), the Institut de Recherches Economiques et Sociales (IRES) at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), and Soci&ter at the University of Mons (UMONS). Since several years, he is Visiting Professor at the Louvain School of Economics (UCL) and at the University of Mons (UMONS). He has a PhD in Economics from ULB.
 
His research is in the area of empirical labour and personnel economics, in particular the analysis of matched employer-employee data to uncover the determinants of productivity, wages and cost-competitiveness. He does also research on labour market institutions (e.g. trade unions, minimum wages), educational mismatch, migration, discrimination, workforce diversity and firm performance, ageing and employability, global value chains and offshoring, sickness absenteeism, and credit constraints.
 
He has advised various organisations including the European Central Bank, Eurofound, the European Trade Union Institute, the National Bank of Belgium, the European Commission and the OECD.

  • He co-edited 17 books (Palgrave) and special issues of scientific journals, and published 64 articles in international scientific journals, 41 articles in Belgian scientific journals and 12 articles in books.

  • Google Scholar: 3,219 citations, h-index 32, i-10 index 56.
  • Ideas/RePEc ranking: among top 5% (rank 40 out of 982 authors) best-ranked economists in Belgium when considering all publication years, among top 3% best-ranked economists in the European Union and in Europe, among top 4% authors according to h-index.
 
He obtained many research grants, notably from Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO), FNRS, Fondation Roi Baudouin, OECD, European Central Bank, European Commission, National Bureau of Economic Research (USA), European Trade Union Institute, National Bank of Belgium, and Walloon Region.
 
He has supervised the thesis of 13 doctoral students (who successfully defended) and is currently supervising 5 other PhDs.
