RESUME
Bernhard Michel is part of the Input-Output Analysis and Environmental Accounts team at the Bureau Fédéral du Plan. Within this team, he contributes to the construction of input-output tables and conducts research on international trade, global value chains, and multinational companies. He has published studies on offshoring and the carbon footprint of Belgium and its regions. In addition, he represents Belgium in the OECD's expert group on measures of economic globalization, which he chairs.
In parallel with his work at the BFP, he teaches a course in ‘Environmental Economics’ at the Warocqué Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Mons. Between 2020 and 2023, he worked as an external national expert for the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the ‘TiVA-SUT for Africa’ project, which aimed to develop statistics for African countries on their integration into global value chains.
During his career at the Federal Planning Bureau, he was also a member of the ‘Structural Studies’ and ‘Economic Forecasts’ teams. Before joining the FPB, he worked as an assistant at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management at ULB and as a researcher at DULBEA (Department of Applied Economics at ULB).
